My name is Dylan Martinez, I was born in Hudson, Wisconsin in 1985. I grew up in Minnesota in the St. Croix River valley. I began my study of glass at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as an elective in 2007. I graduated in 2008 with a degree in Broad Field Science with a minor in Outdoor education. My passion for glass blowing quickly grew and after I obtained my degree. I remained at the university and continued my education in the glass studio until the spring of 2010.

I then got an amazing opportunity to work under a highly experienced glassblower in St. Louis Missouri. I worked for Sam Stang for two years during which time I gained a wide variety of techniques and experiences which built a solid foundation for my career as a glass artist. During this time I had extensive experience utilizing traditional Venetian glass blowing techniques.
Upon completion of my two year apprenticeship I moved to New Zealand in September 2012. I began working for glass artists Luke Jacomb and Katherine Rutecki. While in New Zealand I was able to refine and develop new work based on my inspirations gained during my travels across both islands. I also got exposure to the art of lost wax casting while working with Katherine Rutecki.

I have now returned home and have been taking class again at UWRF and am helping to teach classes. I am currently experimenting and refining all the experiences and techniques I’ve acquired over the past several years.
